Facilitate Change

I've been asked how can a person really change? Romans 12:2 says "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

What does it take to renew your mind? What is the secret to change? Well I think first we need to "Facilitate Change". We need to foster a healthy atmosphere so we encourage change. If left in our "old mind" we will do as our "old self", but if we are transformed and renew our minds, we can prove what is good, acceptable and perfect, will of God. A great example is from when I was a youth pastor. I had teenager ask me how can I change if I'm always around other teens that are doing bad things and encouraging me to join in.

Well scripture answers this by saying we have to be in this world but we are not to be of this world, so when we have to be surrounded by others that do not foster good actions on our part then try our best to practice what God has taught us and be kind but think on good things and practice those good things. But way too many times we put ourselves in those bad situations, not God, when we could avoid them.

Many of us allow too many options in our lives and our kids lives which do not foster good healthy environments. Summer camps are upon us and are a great example. Many parents allow their kids way too many options during the summer to be part of, which in it self, doesn't sound bad because we want our kids to be busy right? Problem is we don't plan ahead and now we have no time for our children to get fed by God. Instead of them getting a healthy dose of God for a week they get everything else they are involved in. Then we wonder why they aren't growing spiritually.

Please understand, I'm not being critical, I just know how the devil works. He wants us to fill our plates so we don't have time for God. I am a person who battles involving myself in too much! My beautiful bride of 18 years reminds me that I need to limit what I'm involved in and our family is involved in because if not, we end up just running around accomplishing only what the world wants and not what God wants.

So, Whats the secret to change? Facilitate change... then CHANGE!
